Mill Setup - 2nd Shift


$1/hr Shift Premium for 2nd Shift

 

SUMMARY OF POSITION: Responsible for the set-up of moderately complex jobs and operation of CNC equipment: i.e., Swiss Lathes, Chucker Lathes, Vertical Mills, Wire and Sinker EDMs etc. Ensuring that all required processes are completed to produce parts that meet quality and ISO standards. Responsible to assist in the training of personnel as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Set-up moderately complex jobs and operate computerized numerical control (CNC) machines to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics.  Able to run multiple machines at one time.
  • Review and understand blueprints, process drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and set up requirements.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow and enter command to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media; observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of–tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications, using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks.
  • Responsible to assist in the training of personnel as required.
  • Confers with Supervisor, engineers, production personnel, programmers or others to resolve machining problems.
  • Complete essential documentation as required.
  • Assure all policies and procedures are followed and safety precautions are taken to reduce the risk of injury
  • Maintain a clean work area and assure safe operation of all equipment.
  • Must be available on reasonable notice for unscheduled overtime to meet production schedules.
  • Perform and document Operator Preventative Maintenance operations as needed.

EXPERIENCE/ EDUCATION: High School Graduate or equivalent. Three or more years CNC machining experience or demonstrated performance.

SKILLS:

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision. Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize accordingly.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Knowledge of GD&T.
  • Complete knowledge of G-Codes.
  • Ability to be a team player.
  • Knowledge of Cad Cam software such as Surf Cam or Part Maker is a plus.

1st Shift Engineering Manager


Plans and designs manufacturing processes.  Maximizes efficiency by analyzing workflow, assembly methods and work force utilization.  Determines parts and tools needed in order to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specifications. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Troubleshoot problems with production and take corrective action.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  including the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

Proficient with trouble shooting of CNC Mills, Lathes, Wire EDM and Swiss Lathe, along with Quality Control procedures.

Provide leadership to engineering staff along with being responsible for developing new processes as well as making significant improvements to existing processes.

Maintain all manufacturing process planning documentation consisting of, but not limited to, item masters, bill of materials, routings, inspection criteria, and labor standards.

Initiate improvements in current manufacturing methods and processes to improve part quality, schedule performance and to reduce manufacturing cost.

Provide technical support to purchasing personnel and suppliers by interpreting product drawings and initiating the development of manufacturing drawings and resolving technical production problems.

Resolve technical production problems in machining, metal finishing and assembly operations working with shop employees and quality personnel.

Initiate and suggest plans to motivate employees to achieve work requirements including Good Manufacturing Practices.

Recommend and implement measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, production floor layout, yields, and quality of product.

Ability to handle project assignments of medium scope and complexity and able to prioritize and complete work in a timely manner.

Participate in investigation/corrective action efforts during production interruption circumstances.

Ensure all activities are in compliance with Quality System requirements.

Work with external tool design/build experts to develop cost effective solutions that can be implemented into the manufacturing setting and are repeatable and reliable.

Create conceptual designs for tools, fixtures, and gages.

Keep and maintain any company owned property and inventory in good working condition.

Conduct overall planning for department and ensures that test/prototype activities are to plan.

Perform other duties as assigned.

 Associate Degree plus five years of relevant experience, or ten years of relevant experience.   Preferably 3-5 years of experience in the medical device manufacturing industry.

 Language Skills:

 Working knowledge of blueprint reading, geometric tolerance and dimensioning symbols.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from co-workers, customers and the general public.

 Mathematical Skills:

 Basic shop mathematics including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, algebra, geometry and trigonometry.

 Reasoning Ability:

 Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:

 Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, CAD/Cam and be able to learn specialty programs.

Programming experience is strongly preferred; knowledge of Vantage system a plus.

Other Skills and Abilities:

 Excellent people skills; ability to work with all levels of personnel.  Proactive approach to problem solving and creating efficiency.  Good planning and organizational skills.  Working knowledge of machining practices.  Good judgment and assessment skills.  Detail and task oriented.  Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, initiative and motivation to plan, organize and control on a self-directed basis.
